The Reset Before the Reset — Setting Up August
There's a quiet plan a lot of people are carrying around right now: September. New term, new routine, back to the gym, sort the eating out, properly this time. It's easy to think this on a lazy August-bound Sunday. It's also, for most people, the reason nothing changes — because a reset you postpone to September is a reset you start from a standing stop, and standing starts are where good intentions go to die.
The September version of you isn't going to magically have more willpower than the July version. They'll be exactly as tired, as busy, as prone to the snooze button. The only thing that makes September easier is walking into it with momentum already built, instead of trying to manufacture it from zero on the first Monday. A standing start like that needs willpower you won't have — so turn it into a rolling one.
The best time to start is always now. Set August up as a holding pattern, not a write-off. You're not trying to get fit in August — you're trying to arrive in September already moving, so the "big restart" is just turning the dial up, not starting from cold. That's a far smaller, far more achievable thing.
From our perspective it's the perfect time to start. The gym is a little quieter, and as everyone starts with one-to-one coaching, you can take those sessions in August and hit September hard, having nailed down the basics.
Do that and September stops being a cliff you have to scale and becomes a small step up from where you already are.
